Rachel started RWA in 2017 with a simple dream, to prove law could be done differently. After years in senior in-house roles, including as General Counsel, she had seen too much of the “old school” legal world: confusing advice, surprise bills and lawyers who felt unapproachable. She wanted to create something better, a law firm that was clear, down-to-earth and genuinely people-first.
But Rachel’s vision went beyond clients. She also wanted to build a firm that worked for lawyers, especially those who don’t fit the traditional mould. A place where talented people could do great legal work without sacrificing their family, health or sanity. At RWA, flexible hours around life’s commitments aren’t perks, they’re the norm. Hierarchies are stripped back, collaboration is genuine and support is real. It’s a team culture built on trust and shared purpose, proving that great lawyering and a life outside work don’t have to be mutually exclusive.
Today, Rachel specialises in employment and commercial law, helping clients solve problems with practical, strategic solutions (not legal jargon). She’s also passionate about property and is hands-on with development projects in the Waikato.
Outside of law, Rachel is usually found wrangling two energetic kids and two equally energetic German Shepherds. She swears by sunrises as the best way to start the day - and her best ideas often come while walking the dogs, coffee in hand.
